TWENTY-FIVE years in the past in Russia, Zavoisky made the 1st experimen tal remark of electron spin resonances; and a yr later Purcell, Torrey and Pound at Harvard and Bloch, Hansen and Packard at Stanford ('The Harvard of the West') saw nuclear magnetic resonances for the 1st time. In either instances (ESR and NMR) the phenomena were formerly anticipated, and Gorter - definitely the most unfortunate experimenters of our time - had made his noble makes an attempt to notice magnetic resonances.

When its epithelial covering - the syncytiotrophoblasts or the syncytio- and cytotrophoblasts (Langhans cell layer) are proliferative and consist of several layers, then the mole can be recognized as malignant, and it can either perforate the uterine wall or metastasize by way of the circulation, and rarely by the lymphatics. The emboli may be deposited in any organ where they ultimately grow into either chorioadenoma destruens or choriocarcinoma. 3 Choriocarcinoma Our records show that the most frequent target of first metastasis is the lungs, then the vagina.

Results and discussion The seven successfully established strains of choriocarcinoma resulted from a total of thirty attempts. Five of these Roy HERTZ: 28 the same for previously frozen tissue as well. Histological study of all strains reveals a close similarity in morphology of the transplant with that seen in the original human material. The rich vascularity of the tumor is very striking, the vascular elements and extravasated blood constituting about half of the tumor mass. Both cytotrophoblast and syncytiotrophoblast strains "took" initially in totally untreated hamsters and all but one strain can be maintained in such untreated animals.
